Recent job listings (and job search data)

~ 25 February 2009 ~

I was reviewing analytics data for Authentic Jobs this morning, and some figures emerged that are remarkable, but also somewhat unsurprising:

  • For the same monthly period one year ago, visits to the site have increased by 45.9% and average time on the site has increased by 22.9%.
  • For the same annual period one year ago (technically two years ago), visits to the site have increased by 76.0% and average time on the site has decreased by 5.1%.

I say somewhat unsurprising because given the current economic climate, one can assume traffic to online job boards has increased in the last 6-12 months. Indeed, a recent report from comScore confirms this assumption: Job search ranked as the fastest growing U.S. online category in 2008. Had comScore’s study included other countries, the same trend would likely have emerged.

Of course, Authentic Jobs welcomes any and all increases in traffic, and the site will continue to connect talented creative and web professionals with great work opportunities — as it’s been doing for nearly four years strong.

Some recent listings are highlighted below.

Apologies if I have missed this in any one of your blog posts in the past, but I was wondering if you could share your wisdom in how to respond to Freelance jobs requests, an FAQ or help pages on Authentic Jobs. I am always tempted by a vast amount of the Freelance jobs, but always shy away from approaching due to lack of knowledge as to how best respond to the advert. More so for the reason that im in full time employment, but work on and can work on more personal/freelance projects in the evenings and weekends.
Sorry for the massive comment, and I’m hoping it all makes sense?

Do you have any data on the change in job postings over last year? My sense is that it’s slowed a bit but is still pretty strong.

@ Ian

I was wondering if you could share your wisdom in how to respond to Freelance jobs requests, an FAQ or help pages on Authentic Jobs.

An answer to this question would certainly be a good FAQ page on the site or a discussion amongst freelancers. I will see what I can provide on the site or foster a discussion. (I don’t have any immediate advice.)

@ Scott

Do you have any data on the change in job postings over last year?

I’ve been hoping to compile data along those lines, but it’ll come down to whether or not I can make the time. However, I will say I’ve seen an increase in the number of freelance listings over the last few months. That may be a result of fewer companies hiring full-time employees, in turn outsourcing more work than previously.
